Welcome to the Sacred Circle. Your Guide Has Been Expecting You.
Welcome, and thank you for being here. What you are holding in your hands is something I put together from years of shamanic journeying, research, and a deep personal relationship with the animal guides who have walked alongside me through every significant chapter of my life. I hope this becomes the beginning of a relationship that surprises and sustains you.

Before You Draw Your Card
Take a moment to arrive fully before you reach for a card.
Step away from whatever you were doing. Take three slow, deliberate breaths, letting each exhale be longer than the inhale. Feel your feet on the floor and your body in your chair. Let the noise of the day settle.
Then set your intention. This does not need to be elaborate. A single, honest question is enough. It could be something specific, a decision you are weighing, a situation that has been sitting heavily, a relationship that needs clarity. Or it could simply be: what do I most need to know right now?
Hold that question in your heart, not your head. And then draw.
Drawing Your Card
Working With What Comes Through
The card that arrives is the card that was meant for you. Your rational mind may want to draw again immediately, especially if the animal that appeared feels unfamiliar or the message does not land instantly. Resist that impulse. Sit with the card for at least twenty-four hours before drawing another. I have pulled multiple cards in one sitting more times than I care to admit, and it has never served me better than staying with the one that came.
Here is how to go deeper with your card:
Research the animal. Read about the species. Its habits, its instincts, its place in the ecosystem, its symbolism across different cultures. As you read, something will begin to resonate with your current situation with a specificity that feels unmistakable. Ted Andrews’ Animal Speak and Steven Farmer’s Animal Spirit Guides are the two references I trust most and have used for decades. Both are available as physical books and in digital formats.
Ask the animal directly. This is the step most people skip, and it is the most important one. Once you know which animal has shown up for you, settle into stillness again, bring the animal’s image to mind, and ask them what they have come to tell you. You may receive an image, a feeling, a word, or simply a quiet knowing that arrives in your body rather than your mind. Trust what comes, even if it surprises you.
Embody their medicine. Each animal carries specific qualities and teachings that are available to you as a living practice, not just an insight to think about. If Wolf has shown up, look at where loyalty, community, and trust in your own instincts are calling to you. If Deer has appeared, the medicine of compassion and gentle strength is asking to be brought more fully into your days. The card is an invitation into a way of being, not only a message to receive.
Honor them. The Andean shamanic tradition teaches Ayni, sacred reciprocity. When a guide shows up for you, find a way to honor their presence in the physical world. Light a candle. Draw their image. If the animal exists in the physical world near you, create a space that welcomes them. The relationship between you and your animal spirit guide deepens when you meet it with reverence.
To understand more about who your animal spirit guides are, where they come from, and how they work with us across a lifetime, The Wondrous World of Animal Spirit Guides will take you much deeper into this territory.
